I started quilting in 1988 and began teaching shortly afterward. What started as something I loved doing grew into decades of learning, teaching, longarm quilting and helping other quilters find their way through new techniques and equipment.
In 2004, I moved from the Washington, D.C. area to Shreve Ranch in Osage County, Oklahoma. Today, Red Barn Quilting operates right here on the ranch in Barnsdall.
I became a longarm quilter in 2001. Over the years, I completed more than 3,000 quilts for customers across the United States.
That experience taught me far more than how to operate a longarm. Every quilt brought different fabrics, piecing, challenges and decisions. It also taught me just how personal a quilt can be.
Those years behind the machine are a big part of the experience I bring to Red Barn Quilting today. When I talk with someone about a longarm machine, Quilt Path or the way they want to quilt, I am talking from years of actually doing the work.
The customer quilting may be part of my history now but everything I learned from those quilts comes with me.
My APQS Experience
I am proud to have opened Oklahoma’s first APQS store and dealership.
By the time I became an APQS Representative, I already knew what it meant to spend years working at a longarm. I knew which details mattered after the excitement of buying a machine wore off and you actually started quilting.
That is why I do not believe choosing a longarm should begin with someone telling you which machine you need.
It should begin with how you quilt.
What kinds of quilts do you make? How much room do you have? Do you want computerized quilting? What feels comfortable when you stand at the frame? What do you want to be able to do that you cannot do now?
My job is to help you understand the machines, tables and quilting systems available so you can make a choice that makes sense for you.
